It has been awhile since my last blog post, mainly due to being preoccupied with the local art group, Modesto Artist Salon. As of October 21, 2017, I had stepped down from the admin team because lately I have been putting so much time and effort into Modesto Artist Salon that I have not been focusing on my artwork, improving my art, working on my artist website, as well as not being able to focus on my health and my family. Something needs to change, and I need to take time to reflect and recenter myself.
As some know, I manage chronic back pain, so that is a big factor in decision of stepping down from being part of the admin team of Modesto Artist Salon. When I push myself too much, I tend to lapse into a pain flare and/or fatigue for days or weeks. With this in mind, I have to manage and balance my lifestyle carefully. My artwork, health, family, those closest to me, my whole self will always come first, 100%. At the moment, that is enough for me to handle, as well as being the most important things; family, art, close friends, health, self. “I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival" (Audre Lorde)
I loved being part of the admin team of Modesto Artist Salon, we did a lot of great things while I was part of the admin team, especially with what we (members of Modesto Artist Salon) accomplished during the 4th of July Festival in Modesto which was our second year participating at Modesto's all American 4th of July Festival as well as participating in the Downtown Modesto's Harvest Festival, also for two years. In addition to setting up shows with Still Smoking Modesto during Modesto's Art Walk, October 19th Art Walk being our last bash of a show. I learned a lot from working with a team of artists who had administrated and assisted with running an art group in Modesto, both online via Facebook and within the art community. I had met a lot of amazing artists, and made friends along the way. It was a wonderful and yet a challenging experience and I am happy that I was able to contribute to the Modesto California art community in some way.
I enjoyed being part of and helping run the art group, Modesto Artist Solon, but there is a time when one has to look at life and make a decision on what needs to be let go. Since I have stepped down from the admin team of Modesto Artist Salon, I am going to focus on rebalancing my life, doing some self care and reflection. I noticed that my last blog post was back in April 2017! I would like to get back into writing more blog posts and of course creating more art! Definitely will be creating more artwork as well as keeping my art website updated and will still show/sell at some of the local events, such as Art Walk at Still Smoking and painting live and/or selling my artwork during Universal Groove with Kolony at The Ralston's Goat in downtown Modesto, California. Be sure to check out my Events!
I am still in the art group, Modesto Artist Salon, and will attend some of their events, but am not part of admin or group decision making, or leadership role, but am one of the founders and current group member of Modesto Artist Salon. Feel free to check out the Modesto Artist Salon on Facebook.
