Thumb Troubles: Part I

The Life of an Artist

I have not been posting much or creating artwork lately because of thumb troubles. Yes, you heard me correctly, thumb troubles. Since the end of February and throughout March 2015, I have been having issues with my right thumb. At first it was this annoying snapping or catching like trigger finger. After awhile, I could not even move my thumb and it would get irritated when I would try and "tough it out. Eventually, my wrist and my elbow would also hurt periodically, so I made an appointment with my doctor to discover what is going on with my right thumb and wrist, come to find out, I have tendonitis at least that is what my doctor thinks. My doctor told me that I need to wear a splint for about six months or until it heals. Since the tendonitis is in my dominant hand, I have not been painting, drawing, or anything creative except for my thumb pictures that I have been sharing through my Facebook Page. I am quiet bummed about the whole ordeal because I already have other health issues that make life challenging, and now I am faced with a new challenge. Well, I am not going down without a fight, so I will be attempting to draw, paint, or create something artistic by using my left hand. It may not be easy, but what else am I to do?

I will also be showing and selling my artwork and art prints at events during this spring and summer, my first event is MUMFest on April 12, then the Stanislaus County Open Artists Studio Tour on April 26 through the 27. Check out my Event Page for more upcoming events! Also, keep in touch with me on my Artsy Facebook Page; I will be posting updates about my Right Thumb along with my attempts of creativity solely using my left hand.

Wish me luck!
