Story Behind the Art:
I have been drawing a lot of sugar skulls lately, and had decided to create sugar skull plaster masks. I really enjoy learning about different cultures and their traditions, and have been had the opportunity to learn more about and participate in Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) festivals with the local Latino Community in Modesto, California. I really enjoy the celebration of Día de los Muertos, it has helped me grieve and get through life after friends and loved ones have passed. I have known quite a few people who have been in my life who have passed away, and have always struggled with it, but the local Latino community has shown me that there is beauty behind death, as well as growth and the remembrance of those who have dies and knowing that their spiritual journey continues.
**Day of the Dead ink pen drawings were inspired by the Mexican holiday and history of "Día de Muertos", especially of their tradition of creating colorful sugar skulls (calaveras de azúcar).
