Story Behind the Art:
"Morning in Bloom" is a painting inspired from a long past memory of when I still lived in Washington State, nearby the Columbia River. The year before moving to Modesto, I recall a morning when a group of friends and I had walked down to the Columbia River and watched the sunrise. The way the clouds surrounded the sun, appeared to be flower petals or rose petals opening up in a golden hue, hence why the yellow-gold rose sunrise within the painting. The slightly streaked silver and white lines dashed across the artwork represent a lapse in time, or age. This particular memory occurred almost twenty years from the date this painting was completed. To imitate the lapse in time, I painted the static-like lines to resemble a screen on an old cathode-ray-tube (CRT) television.
At first, I was quite hesitant of painting these static-like lines. Unsure what the outcome would be, I tried an experiment first to see if the artwork with the static lines would resonate with me. Once the painting was dry (pre-static lines), I covered the painting with plastic wrap and painted the silver and white lines and dashes on top. I left the painted plastic wrap on the painting for a few days so I could get a general sense of what the artwork could look like with the silver and white lines. Liking what I saw, I removed the plastic wrap and painted the silver and white configurations on the canvas, and completing the piece.
